How would you describe your PR firm?
We are a full service firm with roots in the publishing industry. Our clients are authors, publishers, agents, and publishing organizations, but we also have clients from many other disciplines. We also have the versatility, when the need arises, to bring in topnotch specialists in such areas as graphic design, photography, website design, and media coaching, to name a few.
When is the best time to start talking to you about my project?
I always tell potential clients that it is never too early but occasionally it can be too late. Try to gather as much background material as you can about your project, the timing, and about you. The more you can tell us up front, the more fruitful our discussions can be.
Do I have a chance for media attention if I come from a small publisher?
Small publishers have published many of the most successful books of the past few decades. Some have even been self-published, and through word-of-mouth in the media and among booksellers, have taken off.
What if my publisher has committed to a very extensive publicity campaign? Should I still consider hiring an independent publicist?
There is no end to what can be done to publicize a book and an author. In fact, some authors continue their book promotion for years via lecturing, more interviews, and other activities. It's a matter of how much time and money you want to spend on promoting your book. If you are pleased with the plans that your publisher has presented, you may want to sit tight. At the same time, we would be happy to talk to you about other options, which could take place simultaneously or after the initial blitz has taken place.
How do we prevent duplication of efforts between my publisher and Carol Fass Publicity?
After we have had exploratory conversations with you, either you or we can talk to your publisher to prevent duplication of what is already being done in-house.
How much does a typical campaign cost?
Since each campaign is tailor-made to the particular book and author, there is no easy answer to this question. We can tell you that our prices are competitive, yet flexible. What this means is that we usually can make adjustments in the plan to meet your budget.
How long does the average campaign last?
Campaigns can last anywhere from 2-3 months to even a year or more.
Are all campaigns more or less the same?
Publicity campaigns may sound alike but they do differ from firm to firm. How will they position your book via the materials they prepare? How will you be described? How good are the firm's contacts? Is there intensive follow up with the media? How much?
Who will be involved in the campaign?
We try to develop a "team approach" to each project. When everyone works together - that means author, agent, editor, and in-house publicist -- a lot can happen. We take extra steps to work together with everyone involved. The whole is always greater than the sum of the parts.
