Biographical information

Moshe was part of the Emmy-award-winning team that designed the scrambling system for DIRECTV and holds 5 patents in areas related to pay television and computer security. He lectures at the Jerusalem College of Technology, has published numerous technical articles, and was a member of The Association for Computing Machinery's Committee on Scientific Freedom and Human Rights.

Storytelling is part of Moshe's heritage - family tradition has it that he is descended from Rabbi Jacob Kranc, the Magid of Dubno, an 18th century itinerant preacher known as "the Jewish Aesop." For many years, Moshe has enjoyed collecting, reading and re-telling Hasidic stories to family, friends and colleagues. He has a unique perspective on the juncture of high-tech management and Hasidic tales, and the imagination to believe that they have something in common.

Moshe received his B.A. degree in Computer Science and Jewish Studies from Brandeis University, his M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley, and his M.Sc. in Management from Boston University.

Moshe lives in Jerusalem, Israel with his wife Elise and their children.

Discussion topics

  • The Rebbe In The Boardroom: What the Hasidic Masters Can Teach Us About Management
Description: Modern managers have much to learn from the Hasidic Masters. Moshe explains the management style of the Hasidic Rebbes, and compares it with modern management trends. The talk is a mix of Hasidic and business stories, intended to be both entertaining and thought-provoking.
  • Spirituality in the Workplace: A Jewish Perspective
Description: This seminar shows how Jewish values can be integrated into the workplace. It begins with a frontal lecture (around 40 minutes), in which Moshe describe a Jewish style of management based on the teachings of the Hasidic Masters. Moshe then distributes a series of lessons from his book, The Hasidic Masters' Guide to Management, which is studied in the traditional "havruta" style - the audience breaks into small (2-4 person) groups in order to read and analyze the text, then all the groups reconvene to discuss the business lessons that the story contains, how practical they are in the modern business world, real-life examples and counter-examples. The lessons cover issues such as: the difference between embarrassing and shameful corporate behavior, how to create a winning team, bearing the burdens and privileges of leadership, handling negotiations and corporate politics. Time: 3 hours
